Possible rallycross style series.

I'm not sure if this sort of series has been done before so this is going to be a brief post to say that I may look at the possibility of running a rallycross series of Pcars. I have thought up some ideas for how the format would work but I am on break at work right now so I will post a full explanation when I get home. The point of this post at the moment is to gauge interest in this type of series. Tracks and cars have not yet been decided as I just had this idea today but I will be looking into them over the coming week (evo10 will be likely)

Dumb question: how would you run a rallycross series without dirt?

That is obviously an issue which is why I phrased it as a "rallycross style series", it will involve joker laps and features of rallycross sadly without the dirt however I am lookin into ideas but as I said in the first post I thought of this today so there's a lot that still needs to be looked at and worked out

I did a series like this on a different site.
And it gave us lots of fun to race. Although it was on a different game FM4.
We did the joker laps and we used power and/or grip reduction to simulate driving on dirt.

I have ideas on what could be done but there are something's I want to get people's input on. As I said when I get home from work I will post up a full explanation of my current ideas for points, format and then get some feed back while I look at possible cars and tracks

so here are the basic ideas that I have worked out.

Format

the format is set up in a way that will work for 16 people but can easily be changed to work with more. The lap counts are just an example but will be worked out for the tracks

Heats: 4 4 lap races of 4 drivers, top 2 in each heat advance to final

LCQ: 1 6 lap race of the 8 drivers that did not qualify, top 2 advance

Final: 1 8 lap race of 10 drivers

The drivers in the heats in round 1 will be randomly decided and then from round 2 onwards the championship will decide the heats. the top 4 will be in heat 1, 5-8 in heat 2 etc. this way it makes sure that most if not all drivers will be in a final at some point. This should also make the championship more interesting.

The Grid (this is temporary at the moment because the tracks haven't been chosen so it is unknown weather the tracks can handle a 4 wide start)

The grid for the heats will be all 4 cars side by side. where each driver lines up will be random for round 1 and then from round 2 onwards the driver highest in the championship chooses where they on want to start (inside, outside, middle left, middle right) and then the second highest will choose and so on (the selection of where to start applies to the heats, LCQ and Final).
For the LCQ the grid will be 2 rows of 4. Row drivers that came 3rd and Row 2 will be the drivers that came 4th.
The Grid for the final will be 4-4-2. the front row will be the winners of the heats. Row 2 will be the drivers that came second in the heats. Row 3 will be the drivers from the LCQ, The winner from the LCQ gets to choose where he starts on the back row.
Point system
top 20 score points starting with 40pts for first and decreasing by 2pts per position until 20th 2pts. There will also be 1 bonus point for winning your heat. the top 10 point scorers will be decided by their finishing position in the Final. the remaing drivers will be decided by their position in the LCQ

Joker lap

Each track will feature a joker lap. This will be longer or shorter than the normal lap (depending on track) and must be taken once per race. If the Joker is not taken in the heat you will still go to the LCQ but will have to start on a third row behind everyone. If you fail to take the joker in the LCQ or Final you will be placed last over all.

Your Input

I would like to ask your opinions on some subjects.
1. Weather: should we use the weather system in Project cars and if so how do you feel we should use it?
2. Tyre wear: In Rallycross the tires tend to last just over the race distance of the final. Should we run increased tyre wear to simulate this?
3. How should we set up the lobbies? Should all 16 drivers be in one lobby for the heats with the race set to 5 laps and each heat goes one at a time? or should we have a separate lobby for each heat, Final and LCQ?
4. Additions/Changes: Is there anything here you would like to see changed or added.

This series wont start until at least after the next patch comes out so that you can spectate the races you aren't in. Any input is appreciated. I am looking at tracks with potential (I have though of Laguna and Lemans Bugatti but need to check them)

Sounds interesting. You COULD maybe use rain to help simulate rally/loss of grip, but I'd be interested in this format with just normal racing. My only question... how would you do a joker lap? Cutting the track or something like that? (Which is probably SLOWER actually, depending on how and where)

I'm in the middle of testing tracks. The joker is just going to be an alternate route on the circuit such as the pit exit at Laguna. Once I have found a good number of potential tracks I will post them here with a map showing the joker and giving a rough idea of how much time it's worth. Also I have thought about making all the races take place in light rain which could simulate the reduced visibility from dust if it was a dirt track. Also if the joker is slower that isn't an issue because on most WRX tracks the joker is slower than the normal route. I will also be looking to have jokers that have more of an effect (2-4 seconds when compared to the normal lap) this way there is more strategy to the joker
