We at TURN need your help. With the 2016 nearing, it's time for us to look for new and renewing stewards. The role of Race Steward is a vital one to organised racing. The stewards ensure that any and all incidents that occur on track are dealt with quickly and efficiently in the fairest way possible. The current plan is for the TURN staff to appoint a single Chief Steward with two to three appointed stewards helping share their opinions and insights with the Chief Steward, so that as a team, they can feel comfortable adjudicating on inquiries or other infractions of the TURN official series rules. Stewards will serve their term for the calendar year, and the appointment process will be reevaluated in December of each year. We feel that these roles should come from qualified and respected members of the community, so that TURN staff itself can focus on the management of the series and simply accept the ruling of the stewards. We ask that anyone thinking of applying for these positions, has a good understanding of race craft and be level headed when making important decisions. Most importantly you must be able to dedicate and commit yourself to this role and be available to view incidents as and when they arise for all of the official series for the remainder of the calendar year. If stewards are frequently absent when needed, or prove to make biased judgments, the TURN staff reserves the right to appoint an interim steward.

Submit your application to be a TURN appointed race steward. For an application to be considered, you must supply the following information:

  • Gamertag
  • Experience / Qualifications (examples of stewarding experience / attributes that demonstrate you have the qualities to be a good steward)
  • Position applying for (chief race steward or race steward)
  • Why you want the position

Experience / Qualifications: At some point in time I was affiliated and race with TORA, VM, FormulaForza, XPLR and a few other online racing sites. I've raced competitively for over ten years including organizing, testing and hosting. At one point I was a TORA race official and XPLR head steward (short stint as there was little activity through the site so that position faded away at the release and death of FM5.

Position applying for (chief race steward or race steward): Either will suffice...wherever I can help
Why you want the position: I've been a part of many different series through many different sites. I've personally been done wrong (lack of better term) and seen many people done wrong on many occasions from either biased rulings or rulings with apparent blinders. I fight for fairness...period. I believe everybody should get a fair, unbiased ruling simply based on driving etiquet and not who you know or who you may have pissed off. There is no room for grudges or paybacks when it comes to stewarding. Stewards need to be honest and able to see something from both sides and have the driving experience to evaluate the situation and give a proper ruling that everyone will agree with. I believe that if given the chance...I can bring a strong sense of truth, experience and fairness to the TURN stewarding process and I thank you for the consideration.

Experience / Qualifications (examples of stewarding experience / attributes that demonstrate you have the qualities to be a good steward):
I joined Forza back in the good old days, Forza 2. Working my way up to be as fast as possible, and to show a talent that was compatible to compete with the guys that placed in the top spots. In doing so, this has meant vigorous learning of track limits and being able to know when and where to apply the throttle, where to brake and most importantly where to position your car. With many years of experience, I believe that this can be transferred to the decision making of the incidents throughout the year. Though this shows driving experience, I have also had many racing experiences. Competing on sites such as RWS, TORA, VM, PTG, IFCA and other 'on the side' events, I've shown commitment to these series and a drive for competitive racing. I know that my age, eighteen to be specific, may put people off, and thus conclude that my decisions maybe bias or somewhat childish, but over the years you 'grow up,' and I trust that I would be a great part of the stewarding team. I have contributed to many teams, and have always been one to help those who ask for it, within the 'lines.' Being a apart of a team, I have always been the tuner, which adds to my knowledge of cars and their characteristics, tuning cars which have reached the top spots going back to Forza 3, my experience around tuning will also be a great addition to the decisions made by the stewards. With an open mind, good knowledge of experience on track and always pushing for 'fair' racing, this is what I could add to the TURN's stewards.

Position applying for (chief race steward or race steward):
Any, decision is not mine to make. With my Experience / Qualifications I think both roles would be applicable.

Why you want the position:
Watching and reading all these incidents that have been filed, I don't agree with some of them. From a non bias look, my decisions where all concluded with experience on the track, tuning and observant viewing. I have also seen some of the incidents unfold in a race, and the decision made did not coincide with the actual incident. Thus, I think we need a change, a change to how the system works. Not necessarily the penalties, but the process. The stewards have possibly one of the hardest jobs, and with the changes I have in mind, I think the decisions made by the stewards could be much more relatable and realistic, and in conclusion make the whole role of the steward a more 'pleasurable' job.

Experience / Qualifications (examples of stewarding experience / attributes that demonstrate you have the qualities to be a good steward) I have helped run and been lead steward on a small raceing league. I have been competing since February 2014 and have raced on a few different forums, TORA, VTCC1 and FLMS. I try to always finish the race. I'm not normally at the front but I love to be in a good battle no matter what position it's for. I like the idea of rubbing is racing but only to a point. A small bit of door rubbing in a corner is not too bad as long as everyone makes it through the corner. If it forces someone off the track then it is an issue.
Position applying for (chief race steward or race steward) Race Steward
Why you want the position: I personally have had and seen races and championships ruined by people attempting stupid moves and taking someone out. I have seen races where someone caused a crash and wasn't penalised because they were involved in running the series or were team-mates with the lead steward. I would like to be a steward because I love too see good clean racing and I think people that willingly cause incidents and ruin the experience for others should be punished for it. I have seen on other forums people letting their personal feelings interfere with the decisions. I feel that a steward should be there for the good of the series more than anything eles

Position Applying For: Chief Steward, Steward member
Why you want the position: Being on the steward crew this year, I helped implement the initial set of rules, penalties and so forth. After the first few series/events I feel there is still work needed, and that some continuity is needed to achieve a successful transition to the 2016 crew. That said, I really enjoyed being a steward this calendar year, and I personally want to stay on. Frankly, after seeing another site fail miserably at implementing their own rules, I KNOW that what we have here at the TURN steward faculty get it right, and I want to help it continue. I am committed to this site and this crew and I hope I can get the opportunity to continue serving this site.

Experience: A 'seasoned' competitor at the very top. FM1, PGR2, First day of XBL - there cannot be more experience with racing online on Xbox. I live and breathe racing whether that be on the track in real life, XBL or the drag out of a roundabout on the A27. A multiple championship winner across a vast array of sites competing against the very best. I replicate what RR said further up in the thread that this experience counts hugely towards making correct decisions as a steward - car characteristics and all the 'tricks in the book' under my belt. This may seem a little abstract but I hold the role of Performance Analyst in 'real life'. It's my duty to detach myself from situations and provide accurate, objective feedback to inform decision making and report this to some pretty hot headed characters. This ability to remain un-bias is key in this role. I strive for hard but fair racing and have pursued consistent, correct stewarding.

Position applying for: Either

Why you want the position: The lack of objectivity applied to the decision making since I have been active on TURN has irked myself and other racers to the point of application. I feel my experience both as staff and driver over the decade XBL has been active will serve perfectly in this environment. I feel with that experience, and the other members that have applied above we can improve the standard of stewarding.

Experience / Qualifications : I now have a season of being a race steward under my belt and am feeling much more confident in how i view accidents and believe that I have been able to leave bias out of my calls. I have shown that I'm not afraid of the other stewards and am willing to call them out if I believe that they are showing bias and have data to back it up. Beyond that I'm attending IUPUI for Motorsports Engineering and am currently working at the Indy Racing Experience and am around many actual races throughout the year and have seen many different types of motorsport up close. I have also talked with drivers who have won Le Mans and others who are currently in Indycar about various questionable moves by others on the track and understand the real life side of things fairly well. However i know that not all of that can transfer but there are somethings that do such as drivers respect levels for other drivers and staff. I am also currently still not associated with any of the large teams that compete on a regular basis online which i believe helps me be no bias and more importantly perhaps be a source for other drivers that they know is not bias. Also I have been Racing online for a good amount of time and have made my fair share of mistakes some worse than others and know what it feels like to be penalized lightly and harshly and because of this know when someone is deserving of a higher penalty.

Position applying for (chief race steward or race steward):Either is fine but I would prefer Chief Race Steward

Why you want the position: I saw how things worked out over the course of this first term as a steward and have ideas to keep mistakes that were made in the process from happening again. Also i believe i can be an effective leader and take on the responsibilities of chief steward. Also as the Chief steward i would be willing to make sure to talk to those who have questions about decisions and explain the logic behind the decision. I'm good with explaining things to people and believe I can help the community to understand how we make or decisions a bit better when they are unhappy or upset with a decision. Also I do my best to keep up to date with whats going on in the chat and don't normally get behind.
