I was hoping that Martin (F4H Trash) would post up the format for this, but I can explain how the event will be scored. Cosmetic damage, 1 mandatory pit, track limits will be enforced via our stewards and any clips that capture the track limit violations.
There will be twelve races, 40 lap races each, with a 5 minute end of race timer. These races are called stints. Endurance races in the real world are scored by total distance driven in a specified time, rather than a prescribed number of laps. While Forza supports timed races that give the total distance covered, it has an unfortunate side effect of not allowing drivers to see their lap times, and the stint distances are largely determined by how quickly the group can get into proper order and the leader to shout GO. By using races with a specified number of laps, drivers get this pivotal data, and TURN can worry about how to calculate the distances.
The
last driver to cross the line before the end of race timer (last legitimate finisher) sets the pace for that lobby. Spa is 4.352 miles per lap, and because its a 40 lap race, everyone before the timer will have completed 174.080 miles, but not at the same pace. Last legitimate finisher will be awarded 174.080 miles for his/her stint while drivers ahead will be awarded additional mileage based on their pace, relative to the last legitimate finisher. Drivers that find themselves unable to finish before the race timer will be awarded distance as if they had finished 5 minutes behind the leader, with a 0.1 mile (528 ft) penalty between each consecutive driver that finished after the timer. This means that timer DNF drivers will be guaranteed to be awarded less than 174.080 miles.
Thats a lot of text, so let me give you some examples of scoring for a stint. Lets say out of 9 drivers in stint 1, 1st place finishes the race in 1h 30m (just for easy math) and 6th place is the last driver to cross finish line before the timer at 1h 33m. 1st place had a pace of 2:15.000 per lap to complete those 40 laps in 1h 30m, while the 6th place finisher had an average pace of 2:19.500 per lap. If we would have let the 1st place driver continue driving for those extra 3 minutes it took for 6th place to cross the line, 1st place would have covered another 5.8 miles. 7th and 8th place cannot finish before the end of race timer, so they are given a finish time of 1h 35m, with a 0.1 mile penalty between them.
1st - 1h 30m (2:15.000) = 179.88 miles
...
6th - 1h 33m (2:19.500) = 174.080 miles
7th - 1h 35m (2:22.500) = 170.420 miles (1st Timer DNF)
8th - 1h 35m (2:22.500) = 170.420 - 0.1 = 170.320 miles (2nd Timer DNF)
As for lag outs / quits / no shows, they would be treated the same as timer DNF but with a 1 mile penalty for each place.
1st - 1h 30m (2:15.000) = 179.88 miles
...
6th - 1h 33m (2:19.500) = 174.080 miles
7th - 1h 35m (2:22.500) = 170.420 miles (1st Timer DNF)
8th - 1h 35m (2:22.500) = 170.420 - 0.1 = 170.320 miles (2nd Timer DNF)
9th - 1h 35m (2:22.500) = 170.420 - 1.0 = 169.420 miles (1st Lag or Quit)
This ensures that teams stay close and in the hunt for the finish, even if a stint is missed, or lagged out from.
